Exploring concrete steps during “Let’s Talk Hydrogen” event

On April 14th, a diverse group of hydrogen enthusiasts gathered at Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) for a pivotal event hosted by the Rotterdam The Hague Innovation Airport (RHIA). The RHIA Talk, titled “Let’s Talk Hydrogen,” provided a platform to explore the potential of hydrogen-powered aviation, by discussing concrete developments, and pinpointed the importance of collaboration among industry leaders, researchers, and policy makers.

Event Highlights

The event kicked off with a warm welcome by Victor Rijkaart from RHIA, setting an energetic tone for the discussions that followed. Daan van Dijk, representing RTHA, ensured the session was not just informative but also engaging, encouraging a lively exchange of ideas.

Keynote Presentations

The RHIA Talk featured insightful presentations from several experts in the field:

  • Rogier Schoon from Shell offered an in-depth look into hydrogen technology and introduced the Holland Hydrogen 1 electrolyser, a significant development in the production of hydrogen fuel
  • Gerrie Mosch of Cryoworld BV shared methods for the storage and distribution of liquid hydrogen, highlighting the challenges and innovations in the field
  • Marco Smits from AeroDelft and Marlies Hak from RTHA presented exciting plans for upcoming refueling and taxi tests at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, showcasing how these tests are crucial for transitioning to hydrogen-powered aviation.

The Role of the DutcH Aviation Hub

The DutcH₂ Aviation Hub, a program under RHIA, played a pivotal role in organizing this event. The hub serves as an operational test and development environment aimed at accelerating the transition to hydrogen-powered flight. By bringing together companies, researchers, and entrepreneurs, the hub fosters innovation and shares knowledge to ensure progress in zero-emission aviation.

Looking to the Future

As the world continues to seek sustainable energy solutions, hydrogen-powered aviation offers a promising path forward. Events like the RHIA Talk are essential for sharing knowledge, sparking innovation, and forging the partnerships necessary to move forward with developing hydrogen-powered aviation.
