DutcH₂ Aviation Hub

DutcH₂ Aviation Hub is an ecosystem using an operational test and development environment (RTHA) to enable all aspects of hydrogen-powered flight. As part of the broader effort to achieve zero-emission aviation, this Hub serves as a collaborative platform where companies, researchers, policy makers and entrepreneurs come together to develop and implement hydrogen-based solutions within various projects. By working together and sharing knowledge, we ensure a guaranteed acceleration in the transition to hydrogen-powered flight.

PROGRAM CONTENT

The DutcH₂ Aviation Hub is strategically located within one of Europe’s hydrogen hubs, leveraging its proximity to major transport networks and access to cutting-edge research facilities. The Hub focuses on several core activities, including the development and integration of hydrogen aircraft, the creation of hydrogen refueling infrastructure and the promotion of policies conducive to a hydrogen-driven future. By fostering partnerships across sectors, the Hub accelerates the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner hydrogen, ultimately reducing the aviation industry’s carbon footprint.

Projects

Within the DutcH₂ Aviation Hub, we work on projects that are action-oriented and each contribute to the development of hydrogen-powered aviation. Curious about which projects have already been realized within the DutcH₂ Aviation Hub? View them below. Interested in contributing to the development within these projects? Feel free to contact us.
ZeroAvia hydrogen flight

ZeroAvia is working with Rotterdam the Hague Airport to develop hydrogen operations at airports including demonstration flights.

Living Lab Electric Flight

Within this project by NLR, work will be done towards a fuel cell range extender for the Velis Electro, using liquid hydrogen.

More info

Fountain Fuel hydrogen refeulling station

Fountain Fuel is building a zero-emission energy station for hydrogen fueling and electric charging at the airport.

More info

ALBATROS

In the ALBATROS program, we pay attention to fire safety and the safe integration of hydrogen at airports.

More info

Hydrogen leakage detection

At the airport’s liquid hydrogen storage facility, sensors will be installed to detect hydrogen. Additionally, a controlled test and remote monitoring will take place.

NEEDED

Next generation data-driven reference European models and methods towards silent and green aircraft operations around airports.

More info

Liquid hydrogen storage

A liquid hydrogen storage and dispensing facility will be realized at the airport. This makes it possible to store liquid hydrogen and dispense it to research and development aircraft from TU Delft, NLR, AeroDelft and others. This development is part of the TULIPS programme.
